2012 BMW 3-series Spotted Cold Weather Testing

Spy images of the 2012 BMW 3-series, codenamed F30, were spotted undergoing cold weather testing at a BMW facility near a frozen lake, in northern Scandinavia.

The F30 3-series prototype seems to be different from the model car that was caught on video last month. It is speculated that the engine options could include a rumored four cylinder turbo-in petrol engine that is in the development stages right now, along with a hybrid counterpart. Rumors are abound on another engine that will be slightly smaller – a 3.0-liter twin-turbo six-cylinder that was slated for the 2012 M3 that generates 306-hp and 400Nm of torque.

There is somewhat of a general idea of what the proportions are going to be like – squat proportions, short rear overhang and wheels closer to one another. The exterior features include rear LED taillights, and a roof-line that extends towards the rear-end of the car with a slope, steeper than in the current model. BMW will begin work in assembling the 2012 BMW 3-Series by next year.
