Bmw X4 rumored to make its debut in 2012

BMW has plans for a smaller version of the X6, its coup√©-styled SUV, according to an Auto Express report. This new model, which will likely have the X4 badge, follows the success of the X6 that has surpassed sales forecasts. BMW has hinted that there would be a newcomer based on the recently revealed X3. Insiders reveal that this car, which is codenamed X-Style, looks similar to the X6 with its stylish coup√©-like roofline and a muscular body. But while the X6 gets a conventional tailgate, the new car will feature a twin-hatch system, which is also what the 5-Series Gran Turismo uses. This system gives the X4 more flexibility, enabling the driver to open either the entire tailgate or only the saloon-style boot. The car is a four-seater with two individual rear seats, accentuating the X4‚ more luxurious positioning in the X range. The car would be using the same engine and gearboxes as the X3. This means that the car will be powered by a super-efficient 181bhp 2.0-litre turbodiesel for the xDrive20d, which enables the car to sprint from zero to 60mph in eight seconds, yet sets a fuel economy record of 50mpg and boasts emissions of only 150g/km of CO2. In addition, a range-topping xDrive35i petrol variant will be offered, featuring a 3.0-litre turbocharged six-cylinder engine with about 300bhp. These specifications result to the car being capable of a 0-60mph sprint in around five seconds and a top speed that exceeds 150mph. The company has been working on the X4 for quite some time now but its release was delayed due to the financial crisis. The car is expected to appear in concept form at a major motor show in 2011. If it gets a positive reaction from the market, BMW is expected to bring the car into production and sales may start as early as 2012.
